Mary Ellen Green Hayes

Mary Ellen Green (or maybe Ella Mary Hayes, depending when you knew her) was Mary “Mattie” Hayes mother.  It is rare, but there are two pictures of her. This first is from when she is 12 in about 1858.

A second picture of her in 1864 when attending the Lima Seminary.

Married Charles Hayes in 1867 and had one girl, Mary “Mattie” Hayes.

The Hayes family lived at the corner of Rush Mendon Road and East Henrietta Road.  Their house was about where Chase’s Greenhouse is today.  It was formerly the home of her father, James Shelby Green.  James’ wife was Rebecca Bell, daughter of George Bell.  She owned the property to the East on Rush Mendon Road in 1902 (about where Nelson Parkway is today.)
