Members of The Rush Historical Society are excited about our initiatives for the coming year.
We are looking to increase our membership and participation by providing “Rush~Centric” Programing. Each month we will be presenting at least one program or activity focusing on our town. We hope to engage more of residents in planning, supporting and participating. If you have an idea or would like to volunteer with one of our progams, please use the contact form to let us know.
To reach more people, we are looking at increasing our presence on Social Media. Our new, updated website has just been launched. Along with the website, we are looking for ways to have an active presence on Facebook and Instagram. If you are not already a member of the Historical Society’s Facebook page, please join us at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/rushnyhistoricalsociety/about
We are aware that history is not only what happened in the past, but that it is something that is being made today. Our actions today will become the history of Rush for future generations. With this in mind, we are looking for ways to preserve the events of today.
Lastly, we are actively working with the Rush Town Board to secure the house on the corner of 15A and Rush Scottsville Rd. (1911 Rush Scottsville Rd). At this point we are referring to it as “The 1911 Corner House”. If we are given the use of the building, we hope to be able to use it as a home base for the Historical Society and to secure our collections there. Using our collections and items on loan from the community, we would organize exhibits each month. At the very least, we are proposing that the building be open and staffed by volunteers on Sundays. Along with this, the Historial Society would use the site for meetings, provide some programing there and offer it to other town groups for use. We would also like to use this location as a “Welcome Center” to the Town.
